The Clay Studio - Access Statement

Please note that due to social distancing guidelines that are applicable to both ourselves and our neighbour we currently do not have access for wheelchairs. Due to changes in layout in the neighbouring property, we cannot guarantee wheelchair access. There are two steps to the front door which may be manageable with assistance.

The Clay Studio provides a relaxing atmosphere for all visitors regardless or age or any disability. We strive to make The Clay Studio available to everyone with the minimum of inconvenience.

  • This document details the Access Statement for The Clay Studio, the registered office of which is The Fountain, 1 High Street, Christchurch, Dorset BH23 1AE.

  • The Clay Studio has a single location at the above address.

  • The Clay Studio is easy to reach by public or private transport. Buses stop nearby in the High Street. Christchurch railway station is about 5-10 minutes walk.

  • There are two steps to the front door. Buggies can be easily lifted up these steps. Wheelchair access is possible by entering through the next door premises (Tony Hair) on days when Tony Hair is open (normally Monday to Saturday). There is a connecting door between the two properties. There is level access through Tony Hair to The Clay Studio. We can arrange access through Tony Hair when the hair salon is closed but we do appreciate some notice so this can be arranged.

Inside The Clay Studio

  • The Clay Studio has two floors. The lower ground floor is normally used for parties, group bookings and overflow painting only. This is not accessible to wheelchairs or buggies as there is a flight of stairs. The ground floor has a small slope between the front and rear areas which should not pose any difficulties to wheelchairs or buggies.

  • We recommend advance notice for wheelchair-bound visitors. This enables us to give notice to Tony Hair about wheelchair access as a matter of courtesy.

  • Toilets are available on the ground floor. The toilets do not have disabled access and wheelchair entry is not possible.

Non-Public Areas

  • Public access to areas such as the kitchen and kiln room is generally not permitted.

Assistance Dogs

  • As a café and paint your own pottery studio access is not permitted for dogs. However, an exception to this rule is always made for guide or assistance dogs.

The Clay Studio On the Move

  • Subject to a minimum level of expenditure The Clay Studio is able to visit outside premises to conduct painting sessions. This may be more suitable for a larger group of painters who have limited mobility and where they may be in their usual environment.
